Hyundai Santro touches 5 Lakh Exports Milestone
Highly popular Santro has been exported to more than 80 Countries

HMIL began exporting cars in 1999 when it shipped a batch of 20 Santro units to Nepal and it reached the first milestone of exporting 100,000 cars in 2004. In a little over a decade since, Hyundai’s flagship model, the Santro with its ‘Tall Boy’ design has re-defined the concept of a owning and driving a practical and price worthy small car, which owing to its reliability and high fuel efficiency has become a favourite amongst families all over India and abroad.
The unshaken popularity of the Santro over the years has given an impetus to HMIL’s export operations here in India, which after hitting the 500,000 mark in 2008, has now registered exports of 5 lakh Santros from the country.
Commenting on the ongoing success its flagship model, the Santro, H W Park, MD & CEO, HMIL, said, “I am extremely delighted to announce that the export of the Santro has reached 5 lakh units. Right from the time of its launch, this popular car has been widely appreciated for its design, technology and safety. With this we gear up for next phase of growth and remain committed in bringing world class products and service to our customers.”
HMIL exports cars to more than 115 countries across EU, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Accounting 40% of its total production to exports from India, Hyundai Motors India Limited has been the number one exporter of passenger car of the country for the sixth year in a row. It currently exports the Santro, i10, i20 and the Accent models.
