Honda introduced the 6-speed manual transmission with the BR-V petrol, and now that same transmission is expected to be offered with the City. The company’s largest selling sedan will get this gearbox option with the highly praised 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol which has been doing duty in the City for more than a decade. The new gearbox will ease the cruising effort of the engine, thus making it more fuel efficient.
The 1.5-litre motor produces a respectable 120PS of power and 145Nm of peak torque. When it comes to its rivals, only the Verna produces more power and torque than the City. But the Verna's 1.6-litre Gamma petrol is mated to a 5-speed unit, and so are the City's every other competitor, such as the Ciaz, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. However, the City’s biggest competitor remains the Ciaz and both of these cars are very close in terms of monthly sales.
Speaking of the launch of this speculated 6-speed version, there’s no certainty about it as of now, but we may expect it to arrive in the festive season, to give the sales an extra bump.
The diesel City is equipped with a standard 6-speed manual transmission and gets one of the best mileage figures of 26kmpl in its class. The 1.5-litre diesel puts out 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque.
