The list of CBR 650F parts being imported into India clearly points to one glaring fact – most parts of the CBR 650F are going to be imported, at least initially, from Thailand, to be assembled here in India.
That means the CBR 650F, expected to be launched later this year in India, will have a much higher sticker price than the Rs 6-6.5 lakh range expected earlier. Honda is expected to manufacture a lot of parts for the CBR 650F locally, but that is not expected anytime soon.
Effective localisation of parts will first involve shortlisting component manufacturers and intensive quality checks before actual production and sourcing of components are carried out. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India however refused to comment on the development or on any localisation of parts for the CBR 650F.
The bike is powered by a 649cc in-line four engine, which makes an impressive peak power of 87PS at 11,000 revs, while maximum torque comes in at 62Nm at 8,000rpm. That pits it squarely against the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Triumph Street Triple. The Honda though, is expected to be the most expensive here, and we expect it to be priced around the Rs 8 lakh mark, and that is significantly higher than the most affordable mid-sized sport tourer - the Ninja 650.
What you will get for that price is an in-line four cylinder engine with Honda refinement. There’s been no news from Honda yet on a possible launch date, but we expect the CBR 650F to be launched in the second half of 2015.
