Gulf Cup Dirt Track Racing - Round 2

Naidgah Ground located opposite Nashik’s Golf club on Trimbak Road appeared anything but barren on the 9th of January 2011 as it was transformed into a spectacular gravel laden muddy dirt track for the second round of the Gulf Dirt Racing Championship.

With its slippery serpentine layout and well rounded consecutive wide turns, the artificially laid out slushy track was conceptualized exclusively for the one day dirt track racing event. The sharp bends curving around the loose gravel and water-logged areas of the Nashik dirt track saw many riders, particularly the first timers, losing their balance and taking a tumble or two. But with more than 14 action packed races across 10 bikes, scooters and motorcycle categories, mainly varying in displacement and gear combinations, it was an absolute treat watching the knobby tyred bikes skillfully ploughing their way through the dirt and mud heaps in a race to the waving chequered flag.

The second round of the Gulf Cup attracted a record 165 entries this time around, and needless to say, the competition was fierce through all the 14 races that afternoon.

In the Indian Expert Class – Foreign Motorcycles upto 250 cc it was K.P Aravind from Bangalore who won the first race, followed by Pradeep H.K, also from Bangalore, who came in second. Pradeep H.K, however came back strongly in Race 2, beating Natraj R and Vishal Barguje to secure the top position.

Moving onto the Indian Expert Class- Motorcycles upto 260cc it was TVS Racing Team's Pradeep H.K, who once again muscled the mud, and managed to grab the top spot in both races, with K.P Aravind is close pursuit on both occasions.

The Private Expert Class category on that other hand spelt out a very different story. In the Foreign Motorcycles upto 250 cc it was Coimbatore's R.Prakash, who dominated Race 1, but had to ride hard and sharp to recover from a fall after bumping into immediate rival  Aamir Dalvi’s rear tyre, and ultimately went on to win Race 2 as well.

To top that it was ace rider R. Prakash, who came up with a flawless display once again to sprout supreme in the Foreign Motorcycles upto 260cc Private Expert class, thus emerging as the best rider of the meet. In addition to the trophies he won from each class, he took home prize-money of Rs.12,800/-.    

In the Novice class, we had the Motorcycle 131 cc upto 165 cc 4 Stroke category, which was won by Naresh VS from Bangalore of TVS Racing team. S. Kamalakannan of Coimbatore and Anil Kumar from Bangalore came in at second & third place respectively. 

Crossing the finish line in the top position in the Motorcycles upto 130cc 4 stroke (Novice Class) was Naresh V.S from Bangalore, followed by Varun C.V and Siddhant Nayak taking the second and third place respectively. 

In the Motorcycle upto 165 cc 2 stroke (Novice Class) Santosh Kumar K of Coimbatore stole the show leaving Afsal NN of Kochi in the second position and S. Kamalakannan in third position. 

Another exciting race lower down the displacement order was the Scooter Class, which received much cheer from spectators for its simple machinery yet competitive nature of participants. 

Pinkesh Thakker from Pune was best in the local category (Maharashtra) winning both the Groups Motorcycle upto 165cc 2 & 4 stroke and also winning the Scooter Class. The riders in this particular category of races displayed raw courage and skillful riding and gave the huge crowd much to shout about.     

The next (3rd) and final round of the Gulf Cup Dirt Track Racing Championship will commence in Bhopal on 25th &26th February.
