Aston Martin has officially announced that it will bring the ‘Lagonda’ badge back to life. This new four-door supercar will hit the production lines early next year and will roll out from the same facility in which the One-77 took birth.
While details of this new car are still sketchy, it is clear that the car’s design will pay tribute to the 1976 Aston Martin Lagonda sedan. Based on the same VH platform that underpins almost every car that the British manufacturer makes, it is safe to put your money on the fact that it will host a 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 573PS of power. While there is no official announcement of its 0-100kmph dash one can expect it to be around 4.9 seconds, similar to the Aston Martin Rapide S.
"The new model, like its exclusive siblings the One-77 and V12 Zagato, has been created as a piece of exceptional automotive art. It has been designed and developed entirely in keeping with the spirit and ethos of previous Lagonda super saloons - notably the William Towns Lagonda - and as a tribute to this car it proudly bears the Lagonda nameplate," explains Aston design boss Marek Reichmann.
The revival of the Lagonda badge doesn’t quite come as a surprise especially knowing that Aston Martin showcased the Lagonda Crossover concept at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and very recently a disguised prototype was also spotted during testing.
Needless to say that the new Lagonda will be "strictly limited series production". Available on sale in limited quantities, it will offered only by invitation to select customers in the Middle East.
