Geely has pulled the wraps off its new product, the GC9 sedan, ahead of its public appearance at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show in November. According to the Chinese carmaker, this new sedan will be its most ambitious vehicle to date in terms of design, technology, safety and driving dynamics.
Referred to as the GC9, Geely’s new top-of-the-line sedan draws on the KC concept it unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2013. The GC9 is the first Geely vehicle designed by Peter Horbury, who became Geely's chief designer in 2012, two years after its purchase of Volvo from Ford.
Horbury and his team drew inspiration from the silhouette of jet fighters and supercars in crafting the sedan. The front of the vehicle has a distinctively-shaped grille that is flanked by dual headlamps and foglamps. Furthermore, crisp creases and lines that run from the front towards the rear dominate the side profile of the car. At the rear, trapezoidal taillights along with dual exhaust pipes adorn the tail section of the GC9.
Inside, the team thought of using ancient Chinese stone bridges in creating the dashboard and centre console, meeting Horbury’s intention of building a subtle yet neat interior. Darkwood trim and stitching lines at the centre of the seats highlight the Chinese luxury and heritage that Geely wanted to convey.
An official reveal of this new car is scheduled for November 20 at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show.
