Ford have dropped the prices of the recently updated Ecosport compact SUV by an average of about Rs 55-60,000 in order to make it more attractive to its customers. The price drop is surprising considering the fact that almost all other automotive manufacturers have been forced to increase prices in recent times due to new taxation rules that have been introduced in this year’s 2016 union budget.
The facelifted Ecosport was launched a few months ago and came with a host of updated features like daytime running lights, a start-stop button, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. That said, the 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbo petrol or EcoBoost engine remained unchanged. The new prices on the Ecosport have been dropped by between 53,000 on the lower variants to over Rs 1.2 lakh on the top of the line diesel!
Speaking on the occasion, Anurag Mehrota, Executive Director Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India said, “The Ford EcoSport has always been recognised for its strong value proposition and this realignment further strengthens that proposition. With enhanced competitive edge across the entire Ford EcoSport petrol and diesel line-up, we are happy to extend the joy of owning India’s most loved compact SUV to many more customers and welcome them to the Ford family.”
All said and done, we expected a price drop from the Ecosport ever since Maruti Suzuki launched their new and rather impressive compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza in the market at a price point that undercut the Ecosport. We also expect several other manufacturers to drop prices not only of compact SUVs but also of the likes of their premium hatchbacks, compact sedans and mid-size sedan in order to combat the Vitara Brezza.
