Yet another fruitful outing saw Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim finish second in the Blancpain FIA GT Series. The Chennai-born racer had finished on podium twice in the previous round at Brands Hatch in UK after returning from a high speed crash in the opening round in Nogaro, France. Ebrahim alongwith his Fortec Motorsports team-mate Miguel Toril finished the Race 1 on the second step of the rostrum at Zandvoort in Netherlands.
The race weekend didn’t start on a high note as he missed the entire practice session owing to a broken water pump belt. Unfazed from this, the young driver managed to qualify in 11th position on the grid consisting of 20 competitors including former F1 drivers Giorgio Pantano and Nelson Piquet Jr. All the good work done by Ebrahim was undone as team-mate had an unsuccessful qualifying session which meant they started Race 1 from 18th place.
But both Ebrahim and Toril utilised the deteriorating track conditions to fight back from the back of the grid to finish in second position in their class and 12th overall. Race 2 however didn’t go according to what the duo had planned as a safety car earlier in the race and an error in judgment for tyre selection meant that they were out of a podium finish reckoning.
