Electric car company, Detroit Electric, has geared up for the release of its first commercial vehicle - the SP:01 sportscar. The company has released a teaser image of its forthcoming car which drops hint of the final exterior design of the production vehicle.
In a statement, Albert Lam, CEO, Detroit Electric, said, “This new creative direction reflects Detroit Electric’s passion to deliver premium, design-driven products. We are proud to identify with the original Detroit Electric company’s history and look forward to enhancing the core values of this historic brand through innovation, pioneering spirit and performance. The new corporate identity has modernised the brand’s image to ensure it is fit for today’s rapidly evolving market, while preserving some of the magic and heritage of the original Detroit Electric brand.”
Built on the Lotus Elise chassis, this lightweight, two-seat, rear-wheel-drive, open-top roadster has a mid-mounted motor and a lightweight, purpose-designed battery pack. The company states the mid-mounted electric motor churns out 278PS of power and 280Nm of torque. Consequently, Detroit Electric claims that the SP:01 is the world’s quickest electric car which sprints from 0-100kmph in just 3.7 seconds with a top-speed of 250kmph.
The Detroit Electric SP:01 will be produced in Leamington Spa in the UK.
