Bajaj Boxer Cafe Racer

From custom bike builders to premium international brands and now even bikes with commuter-ish small displacement engines, every manufacturer seems to want a café racer in their product line up.

Bajaj Auto Ltd recently unveiled its café racer based on the Bajaj Boxer 150 at the 2015 Turkey Auto Show in Istanbul.

The bike features high gloss blue paint scheme together with black matte treatment on the fuel tank, shocks and wheels. A custom single seat and underbelly exhaust with what looks like carbon fibre coating adds more glitz to this café racer. Circular turn indicators, circular headlight with a fly-screen add to the retro appeal.

The Boxer 150 is powered by a 144.8 air-cooled engine which is capable of just over 12PS of power and 12Nm torque, translated to the wheels through a four-speed gearbox. And the same engine powers the Boxer 150 café racer.

So, if Bajaj Auto decides to introduce this café racer in India, fans who have drooled over the Hero Splendor Pro Classic (Hero’s 97cc café racer based on the popular Splendor) will have reason to cheer and some more power on tap.

The base Boxer 150 was launched in India in 2011 but Bajaj pulled out the Boxer 150 from the Indian product line just over a year later, due to poor demand. The Boxer 150 however, has been selling in Bajaj Auto’s export markets like Turkey offering a rugged 150cc commuter bike with good performance. And that seems to be the reason why Bajaj has now unveiled the Boxer 150 café racer in Istanbul.

Will it come to India? That’s the question everyone seems to be asking but we’re not sure either. If it comes, it will be the third factory built café racer on offer from an Indian company, joining the likes of the Hero Splendor Pro Classic at one end to the Royal Enfield Continental GT on the other.
