NAVTEQ is a global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world and with its latest survey done in association with TNS Global Market Research, the company has come up with a research focusing only on women’s travel and navigation behaviour.
Out of the total of 760 respondents surveyed across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, 51 per cent of Indian women surveyed feel unsafe travelling on Indian roads and 73 per cent expressed fear for their physical safety when travelling at night. But what came as a positive note from the survey was the willingness and comfort of 4 out of 5 women of using navigation via device or a smart phone.
This is so right. Why carry pepper spray or a Swiss knife when you know where you heading to? The device is available at a very reasonable cost of just Rs. 15,900 for a 4.3' Powerful street navigator and Rs. 18,900 for a 5' Full-featured navigation with wide screen display.

The device comes loaded with features like junction view for a clearer picture of where exactly you are, my address to help you reach your home from any part of India, text-to-speech to speak out the street names that too in Indian accent and voice guidance in both Hindi and English which is also now being developed in local languages. Apart from these, the other attractive features include the free lifetime map support, my favourites for destinations you often visit but don’t remember the route to, eco-drive which tells you the mileage of the vehicle and a trip log or a planner telling you the history of travel along with planning the route from start to end.
But the question here is how detailed is the navigations maps here? Addressing the concern, Rajat Tandon, Director India Sales, NAVTEQ said, "The roads and lanes have been divided in 4-5 functional levels, where we have the first three absolutely in place. But the 4th and 5th will definitely lead you to the innermost lane of a city but will lack minor details."
As far as the reliability of the maps is concerned, the maps are upgraded every quarter by the experts who are on a go with a van having 270 degree cameras on top apart from tons of applications inside. The field experts always take a local person with them to get the places rightly spelled and named.
It's time you stop being scared with unknown cab drivers and autowaala's, here is the tool to your freedom and security.
