DIY car care for foggy weather

Keeping your visibility while driving in fog can be quite a task if your car is not up to shape to tackle the low visibility weather. Here is a checklist of do-it-yourself things can prove to be a lot less stressful for you. Here is what the ‘above all’ list.

1.Headlights:  Make sure your headlights have enough lighting capacity. Bi-Xenons, High Intensity Discharges do help. However, the question comes in, what you do if your car is equipped with Halogens only? Check if your car's headlights are clean and have sufficient lighting capacity. An affordable aftermarket equipment that you can use is a haedlight relay which increases the lighting capacity without changing the headlights or the lamps. And foremost, DO NOT USE HIGH BEAM. This will only decrease visibility

2.Wipers: Despite the fact that you require them less, wipers is an important part to remove the icing that develops on the windscreen and the rear glass while driving.

3.Demisters: Check if your front and rear demisters are working properly and if not, get them checked and if possible, replaced. Also, for demisting the windscreen, all you need to do is put your car’s circulation on fresh mode and turn to maximum heating. The fresh air coming in will become warmer by the engine’s heat and is a better way to save fuel.

4.Hazard lights, rear lighting and parking lamps: Check if all these are intact and replace whichever is defective. This will ensure for all round visibility of your car.

5.Fog lamps: This is the thumb rule of driving in fog. Install fog lamps if there is space on your car for the same. Some older cars do not have space, however, check for legalities from local authorities before installing any aftermarket fog lamps and make sure they are effective enough for fog. Make sure that they are multi-colored or yellow. White fog lamps do look good, however, are totally in-effective in fog.

Keep these to-do things in mind before heading out in foggy weather and not only are you being safe to yourself, but, others as well.
