The Ford Motor Company is an American multinational corporation based in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit and is the world's second largest automaker with approximately 350,000 employees, operating in more than 200 markets on six continents. The automaker was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. In India, Ford began production in 1998 with its Ford Escort model, which wa later replaced by locally produced Ford Ikon in 2001.
Ford’s current portfolio includes global products the likes of the Ford Ecosport compact SUV, the Ford Fiesta sedan and the Ford Endeavour. Ford in India also seels the Figo hatchback, which does good sales. In India all Ford cars are made at Ford's Rs. 1700 crore integrated manufacturing plant near Chennai. The plant, equipped with advanced manufacturing technology, covers 350 acres, provides employment to about 2,000 people directly and many more thousands indirectly and has a capacity to manufacture upto 100,000 vehicles per annum.
Ford in India has over 200 dealerships and service centres catering to the whole range of their products. In 2015, Ford will launch a very important range of products in India, the new Figo and the Figo Aspire compact sedan. If demand in the past is anything to go by, the new cars by American Automaker will be an instant success just like the Ecosport. Ford will also launch the hugely popular and revered Ford Mustang in India very soon.
