Nano launch date revealed!

We have confirmed news about the launch date of Tata Motors' eagerly awaited people's car, the Nano. Read on to find out when!

They said it could not be made, they said they weren't sure if it would be a car, but Tata Motors will be silencing all critics with the unveiling of the Nano. The red-letter day in Indian automotive history has been set as March 23, 2009.

Bookings for the Nano are scheduled to begin from the second week of April, 2009. Tata Motors is promising a widespread network to support the high demand being anticipated for the car. Booking details will be revealed on the launch date.

Through the many ups and downs in the already eventful life of the car, it has seen skepticism followed by worldwide mania when the car was revealed at the 2008 Auto Expo in January last year. The Singur controversy followed, and had it not been for the fiasco it is likely that Nanos would have been plying on our streets today.

The past is behind us now, and not just the nation but the world will have its eyes peeled at the launch of the much-touted 1-lakh rupee car. We've spotted the car in and around Pune during its real-world test runs, and if the test mules are anything to go by, the car will definitely be no slouch either. Stay tuned in to ZigWheels.com for more on the car as the news breaks!

What Ratan Tata has done is a marvel in automobile technology. He deserves to be complimented for putting India high on this side of the technology. What I and many informed Indians, however, detest is the public chamoflage as people's car. Which people? According to official data, more than 26% Indians are BPL, upto about 65 to 70% earn to live hand to mouth. India rates high on child malnutrition; maternity deaths; 62% school dropouts;uncared senior citizens. What percentage of Indians can affiord a lakh to buy a car, spend on fuel and maintain? Probably owners of today's two wheelers will eye this car. One more level of comfort; Good. For the rich, Nano will be a toy for the drawing room; for them BMW variety is the baseline. Further, the actual reason for which Nano was shunted out of Bengal is much deeper than what people talk about. Why no industry in Purulia for example faced the problem that Tata faced in Singur? Let us celebrate the technological marvel of Nano, but not add any social or developmental value to it. | Reply

It is really sad when cynics come out with all possible things to speak ill of that innovation in Indian engineering which has got the world sit up! Don't people have any love for the nation? All those who speak of roads and parking, don't the huge cars not need them! Why did no one object to those coming on the road? Some call this an autorickshaw, assuming it is one, our monsoons will see us dry not when the vehicles splash muddy waters into the rickshaw! This one will have a sturdy top. Somebody was telling about no test conducted on the vehicle! Does he know that there is a vehicle certifying agency and the vehicle is certified after standards are met. If the vehicle is toreach out to the export market, the certificate is to be had from outside agency as well. We only accept an outsider commending us right!! It is often a pity that we have such ill informed 'educated' people. It is said that a two-wheeler company created the Singur-fiasco to hit the Nano from coming. I know the events before the Indica came to the market. The engineers behind the product are all those who have worked day and night to see this event happen. See the product on 23rd and come out with the cynical views! Jai Ho! Nano! God please take care of Nano baiters! | Reply

At last TATA succeeded. Many elements tried through many ways to stop it as it will make a revolution in India which some sections in the same or connected field did not / do not like. Hence they tried to foil TATA's attempt many ways, being the last method which India has seen in West Bengal. All the best wishes THE BUSINESS GIANT. | Reply

GM is working on a car named VOLT. The primary drive or the main train is Electric motor. However there is a small on board petrol generator which will powere the car once the battery is depleted., which means if you drive less than 100 km then you will be driving pure electric. If the petrol station put high voltage charging facility then one can charge it for less than 20 minutes or so. The city must install coin operated or charging station on every nook and corner. This will rid INDIA OF POLLUTION. I have written to Tata's motors to bring this tpe of car into India. However a company in China who builds lithium batteries for the 63% world market and come out with beautiful dual mode cars which runs on pure electric motor and and on board generator like gm's VOLT they have also come out with pure electric car. If some one can just import this in India then he will be not millionaire but super billionaire. as these are more or less zero pollution cars. The name of the chinese company is BYD. just type www.byd.com GOOD LUCK INDIA> | Reply

This is amazing. I wish Tata and Nano well. This will be a gift to the middle class family who rides with his/her 2 small children on a scooter because he cannot afford a 2-3 lakh car. THis will be a gift to the elderly and sick who need some mobility. Also a great thing for the rural areas in India. I read some detracting comments here and felt very amused. These guys dont have the perspective. They remind me of this event that I witnessed in real life. At a traffic junction in Mumbai, a traffice cop caught a "Esteem driver" and proceeded to give him a official "challan" for going through a red signal and almost causing an accident with a rickshaw driver. The "Esteem" driver ofcourse was not happy to pay the 300-400 rupees fine. So his argument to the cop was arrest Dawood Ibrahim first. Clean the country of corruption (mind u- the cop was giving him a receipt_..and then "harrass"...normal drivers. All because he did not like the idea of paying a fine when breaking a signal and almost kiling 1-2 people in a rickshaw. | Reply

At the advent of global warming and climatic change facing us, we need to ask ourselves if we need more cars on the streets or have more trees planted or BOTH?? | Reply
