TVS Motor Company will take the popular TVS Apache performance motorcycle brand to the next level.

TVS Apache 2015 to be based on TVS Draken X21 concept

The next generation of home-grown performance motorcycles are gearing up to set the stage on fire. Recently we gave a detailed report on the future plans of Bajaj Pulsar range (Also read: Bajaj Pulsar future plans) which would be the most advance range of bikes to roll-out of its Chakan plant. And now there are reports that its arch rival from down south, TVS Motor Company, is preparing to unleash the all new TVS Apache 2015 in the India market.

TVS Motor had announced during the 2014 Auto Expo that it will be launching four new products in the financial year 2014-15, which it initiated with the introduction of the TVS Star City+. (Also Read: TVS Star City review). Next in queue is the stylish new TVS Scooty Zest gearless scooter which was displayed by the company during the Auto Expo. The TVS Zest is powered with a four-stroke, 109.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which would produce about 8PS peak power and 8Nm maximum torque. The automatic scooter is expected to be very aggressively priced to give the segment leader, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter Ltd. stiff competition, and will be launched between June-July 2014.

Later this year, around September, TVS Motor will launch its third two-wheeler model for this financial year by reviving the commuter motorcycle brand TVS Victor. The 2014 TVS Victor is expected to borrow cycle part from its sibling TVS Phoenix, including the 125cc single cylinder air-cooled engine which is capable of 11PS of peak power and 10.8Nm maximum

Sources working closely with TVS Motor Company have told ZigWheels that the fourth and final model for FY 2014-15 will be the all-new TVS Apache. Recently, the international automobile giant BMW, had joined hands with TVS Motor Company to develop small capacity motorcycles, but the new TVS Apache 2015 is being developed entirely by TVS engineers in India without the support of its German partner. TVS’ new performance motorcycle will be the company’s flag bearer in terms of technology and design.

TVS Draken X21 Concept at 2014 Auto Expo

The TVS Apache 2015 will be broadly based on the futuristic TVS Draken X21 concept, which was also showcased during the 2014 Auto Expo. The source stated that the TVS Apache 2015 will employ some features of the Draken X21. We feel that the new TVS Apache will actually be a toned down version of the TVS Draken X21 concept, so that the production motorcycle is comfortable for daily use and practical for large scale production.

TVS Draken X21 concept features a full LED headlamp with daytime-running lamps, digital console and neatly sculpted bar-end mirrors. The Draken also sported upside down forks at front, off-set monoshock, an aluminium trellis frame and a protruding exhaust, underpinning below the engine. TVS claims that this is a reverse flow exhaust system. We hope most of these features make it into the production ready TVS Apache 2015, however, we are certain that ABS will be offered as an option.

The most interesting part is that the new TVS Apache 2015 could be the company’s first quarter-litre offering in India. The new Apache could be powered by a similar engine, which was shown on the TVS Draken. The concept bike came with a 250cc, liquid-cooled engine which promised to churn out a stunning 39PS peak power at 12,000rpm and 23Nm maximum torque at 9,500rpm. In the TVS Apache 2015, the 250cc engine could be detuned slightly to improve fuel efficiency for daily use.

Our source has indicated that currently, the bike is being tested in extreme secrecy and the bike will be launched in the beginning of next year. While the TVS-BMW small capacity motorcycle is said to be schedule for launch at the end of 2015. Meanwhile, we hope TVS Motor Company keeps the pricing of the new TVS Apache 2015 as competitive as it has managed with all its other two-wheeler models.
