Set to make a global debut next month at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the next-generation Audi Q7 has already been spotted testing in India. Despite being heavily disguised, the new generation Audi Q7 was easy to spot thanks to the distinct arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights and the similar proportion to the outgoing model.

The new model gets sharper body creases and a more aggressive stance than before. Also new are the more prominent wheel arches, redesigned tail lamps and bumpers and new alloy wheels. While the sharp rectangular tail pipes are another give away.

The biggest change in the new generation Audi Q7 is its 325kg lighter weight than its forbearer, which also helps improve fuel economy by up to 26 per cent more. The second generation Audi Q7 will be available with a 3.0-litre TDI oil-burner capable of 272PS of peak power and 600Nm of maximum torque.  Also, expect a slightly detuned variant of the 3.0-litre TDI engine producing 218PS and 500Nm of torque to be launched a little later.

The petrol option would include a 251PS, 2.0-litre TFSI and a larger 3.0 TFSI producing 333PS of power and 440Nm torque. Internationally, the new generation Audi Q7 will also be available as a diesel hybrid with an e-Tron 3.0-litre engine with a combined power rating of 374PS and 700Nm of torque.

All the variants will come equipped with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro, Audi’s permanent all-wheel drive system. The new generation Audi Q7 will also have the optional all wheel steer system which also turns the rear wheels by about 5-degrees, to reduce the turning radius.

The new generation Audi Q7 will be brought in India by late 2015. Once launched, it will take on the likes of BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GL Class and the new Volvo XC90. Unlike the current Audi Q7 which is assembled in Audi India at their Aurangabad plant, the next generation Audi Q7 will be imported as a CBU initially. Though the German car manufacturer has not indicated the price of the new SUV, we expect it to be priced between Rs 75-90 lakh in India.
