ZigWheels has learnt that Suzuki India is working on a new 250cc motorcycle for our two-wheeler market. The upcoming 250cc motorcycle will be in all probability christened Suzuki Gixxer 250. According to our sources powering the new Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be a single-cylinder 250cc powerplant. By employing a single-cylinder unit, Suzuki will be able to keep the production cost low and thereby pricing the bike aggressively. The new engine is being developed in India under the guidance of engineers from Suzuki’s Japanese headquarters. The motor will be mated to a 6-speed transmission while power output is assumed to be around 25 to 28PS. It is expected that the styling of the upcoming 250cc motorcycle will be similar to the Suzuki Gixxer 155 albeit with larger proportions and a bulkier profile to set it apart from its 150cc sibling.

The riding posture ofthe 250cc bike will be similar to the Gixxer 155 which is upright and comfortable. Braking duties will be handled by disc brake at front and rear while the Gixxer 250 would employ telescopic front forks and a monoshock unit at the rear. The Suzuki Gixxer 250 concept is reported to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi and will be among the star attractions of the show. The new Suzuki Gixxer 250 will not be only limited to the Indian market as the Japanese two-wheeler giant plans to export the motorcycle in sub continent markets as well. According to our sources the bike is still in its development stage and it will take more than a year for the bike to hit showrooms. It is expected that the Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be launched by late 2016.

As Suzuki India has launched the faired version of the Gixxer 155 in the form of the Gixxer SF, the possibility of the Suzuki Gixxer 250SF cannot be discounted. Suzuki India had earlier announced that it plans to focus its attention on the 150cc plus motorcycle categories for India and the Gixxer 250 may be the first offering as part of this initiative. The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is expected to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh and will compete against the KTM 200 Duke and the upcoming Mahindra Mojo. Watch this space for further developments regarding the Suzuki Gixxer 250.
