Yamaha has introduced the Tracer 700 sport-tourer to further expand its product range in the adventure touring segment of motorcycles. With the recent trend of motorcycles on the rise in the European market, Yamaha wants to be a part of it with its efficient two- and three-cylinder motorcycles.

The styling of Yamaha Tracer 700 is sharp with aerodynamic slits for smooth flow of air around the motorcycle. It has a half fairing design which extends towards the tank. The bottom section of the fairing also serves as a protective covering for the radiator. The Tracer 700 has a twin headlight setup with a metal mesh air slit at the centre. Being an adventure tourer, the bike has a windscreen with manual adjustment. The single piece handle-bar has the indicators mounted below the levers and has body coloured handguards. The bike features a full digital instrumental cluster and a 12V power socket on the inner right-side of the fairing. The sculpted fuel tank has rubber pads for support and has the capacity to carry 17-litres of fuel. The one-piece seat is designed to offer good comfort for the rider and pillion on long journeys. The tail of the motorcycle has minimal body coloured panels giving it a compact appeal. It also has provision for mounting luggage on the sides.

The Tracer 700 has been developed on a similar setup of the MT-07 naked bike that is currently sold in the market. To make it a good adventure motorcycle, Yamaha has changed the cycle parts like the swingarm which is now longer by 50mm, and a revised suspension setup. The motorcycle has telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. It has good ground clearance of 140mm. The bike stands on 120/70-R17 at the front and 180-55 R17 tyres at the rear with muliti-spoke alloy wheels. Braking is handled by ABS assisted 282 dia twin discs at the front and 245 dia single disc at the rear. Its tips the scale at 196 kgs which is ideal for the mid-capacity adventure tourer motorcycle.

Powered by the 689cc liquid-cooled twin-mill, the motorcycle is capable of developing 74.8PS of power at 9000 rpm and 68Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm. The six-speed constant mesh gearbox transmits power to the rear wheels via a chain drive. With the addition of twin-cylinder mill, Yamaha can be said to be aiming at developing different bikes that are based on the same platform. A similar strategy can be observed with Kawasaki as it has the ER-6n, Ninja 650, Vulcan, and the Versys 650 which are based on a common platform.

Yamaha Tracer 700 Sport-Tourer: Action

The Tracer 700 is currently available only in the European market and will soon enter the US market as well. In India, Yamaha has already commence CKD operations with YZF R3 fully faired motorcycle. Keep that in mind and with the adventure touring market gaining traction, we expect Yamaha to consider introducing the CKD version of the Tracer 700 in India.
