At the weekend of the inaugural race of the 2016 MotoGP season an important announcement was a made by Valentino Rossi. The Italian rider announced that he has extended his contract with Yamaha for two more years. This bit of news really comes as a surprise as Rossi had said that he would take a decision on extending his MotoGP career by mid-season. It seems that the MotoGP legend wanted to surprise his rivals and his contract extension will be cherished by his followers across the globe.

Speaking about his contract extension, Valentino Rossi said, “I am very happy to announce that Yamaha and I have extended our contract and will continue working together in MotoGP for the next two years. I am very satisfied with this decision, because it has always been my plan to compete in motorsports for as long as I can be competitive and find it enjoyable at the same time. Ever since I returned to Yamaha in 2013 I have felt like I am home again and this showed in the results. I get great enjoyment out of working with my crew and the rest of the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team. I also want to say a big 'Thank You' to my fans, who are always behind me every step of the way, making the races extra special. I will keep pushing at each and every Grand Prix so we can all keep enjoying MotoGP for more years to come!”

Rossi had a terrific season in 2015 and was in title contention till the last race of the season at Valencia where he was defeated by Jorge Lorenzo. The Italian rider is currently the oldest rider on the grid at 37 years old and things wouldn’t be easy for The Doctor with his young rivals upping the ante. But Rossi is a legend for a reason and his fans will be praying that he wins his 10th championship title before hanging his Dainese race suit.
