Triumph has tweaked the Speed Triple-R with cosmetic changes as part of its 2014 update and it gets switchable ABS as standard

With every major two-wheeler manufacturer tinkering with its product portfolio as part of their 2014 update, how can Triumph be left behind? The iconic British motorcycle manufacturer has tweaked the already impressive Speed Triple R with cosmetic changes along with new colours and features. Starting off proceedings are the radiator cover and frame below seat which sports a gleaming shade of red and similar coloured racing stripes on the rims also. The fly-screen, rear cowl and belly pan would sport matching colour scheme to give the bike a more sporty appeal. Also specific to the updated model would be the blacked out exhaust shield.

Unlike the 2013 model on which switchable ABS was an option, the new model gets it as standard. Even after adding these features Triumph has been successful in reducing the bike's pricing as it has replaced the expensive forged aluminium rims with more mainstream cast aluminium wheels. No changes have been done on the mechanical front and the 2014-spec model would be powered by the same 1050cc mill producing 135PS and 111Nm of torque as found on the standard model. Being an R-spec model one can find top of the shelf parts like Brembo mono-bloc brakes and Öhlins front and rear suspension as standard.

The new model has been priced at £10,999 (Rs 11 lakh) against £11,299 (Rs 11.4 lakh without ABS) for the 2013 model and would be available in shades of matte Caspian White, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black. It has been long speculated that Triumph would be entering our market by end of this year and it would be interesting to see whether we would get the updated 2014 model or the older spec model.
