Toyota seems to be readying the Vios C-Segment sedan to go up against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Volkswagen Vento. The Vios has already been launched in the South East Asian market such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, and is soon expected to make its way into India as well. The new C-segment sedan has been spotted testing in Bengaluru.
At 4,410mm in length, the Vios that is on sale in the South East Asian market is larger than the Etios Sedan. In fact, at 1,700mm it even sits wider than the entry-level sedan sibling. That said, the Vios will be based on the same platform as the Etios and the wheelbase too will remain the same. However, the Vios sedan won’t be as tall as the Etios sedan.
ZigWheels had broken the news of a new sedan from Toyota to be slotted between the Etios and the Corolla Altis in July last year. The C-segment sedan market is a huge one in India and keeping that in mind, the Japanese car maker wants to introduce a new offering to get a piece of the pie.

The Vios sedan gets a twin slat grille up front which will flaunt the Toyota logo in the centre. The sweptback headlights flanked on either side of the grille gives the Vios a bold stance up front. At the back too, the Honda City rival will stick to the new Toyota design language.
Under the hood, the Vios will come with both petrol and diesel engine options, both of which will be the retuned version of the Etios engine. The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit will make 109PS and 141Nm of torque, while in the diesel trim the Vios will sport a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder unit that will make more power than the 68PS and 170Nm of the Etios sedan. The Vios will be offered in manual as well as an automatic gearbox options.
The Vios sedan is expected to be launched towards the end of 2015 or in the first quarter of 2016. As far as pricing goes, if Toyota’s current line-up is anything to go by, the Vios too is expected to be priced competitively. The Vios will be launched in a price range of Rs 7.5-11 lakh.
