Royal Enfield Himalayan Launch

After making enthusiasts wait for a long time, Royal Enfield finally launched the new Himalayan motorcycle in the Indian market. The Royal Enfield Himalayan has been priced at Rs 1,55,545 ex-showroom Maharashtra and Rs 1,78,872 on-road, Mumbai. The new motorcycle is the first home- grown adventure tourer motorcycle and is also the cheapest bike of its genre in the Indian market. We recently rode the bike in treacherous weather conditions in Shimla and you can read our review story here – Royal Enfield Himalayan First Ride Review. The Himalayan is also the first new motorcycle from the iconic Indian two-wheeler manufacturer after the Continental GT cafe racer that was launched few years back.

The styling of the adventure bike has been kept bare and basic. According to RE officials the purpose behind the minimalistic design was to reduce unwanted weight and also less damage to the motorcycle in the event of a fall. The design gives preference to function over form and in our opinion the Himalayan is a sturdy looking motorcycle.  Windscreen and pannier mounts are standard on the motorcycle. The saddle has been scooped to make the ride height as low as possible (800mm) to make the bike more accessible for average for Indian riders. A 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear give the side profile of the bike a likeable appearance. In terms of features and equipment, the bike gets all you could ask for apart from the obvious speedometer tachometer and fuel gauge, including a digital gear indicator, two trip meters, average speed display, side-stand indicator, clock, temperature gauge and a compass as well.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Launch

The Himalayan in powered by an air-cooled, 411cc single cylinder LS4 engine which makes 24.5PS of power and 32Nm of torque between 4,000 to 4,500rpm. The engine now sports overhead cams compared to Royal Enfield’s trademark push rod architecture. With this crucial shift, the engine should be able to freely rev to 6,500-7,000rpm. The engine has also been fitted with a counter balancer to reduce vibrations, which should make the Himalayan, the smoothest and the most refined Royal Enfield yet. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheel. The tyres are dual-purpose off-road, on-road tyres especially developed by Ceat mounted on 21-inch spoked wheels in the front and 18-inch spoked rims at the rear. The bike weighs 182kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres.

Royal Enfield Himalayan pricing on-road:

Bangalore - Rs 1.84 lakh

Kolkata - Rs 1.81 lakh

Chennai - Rs 1.75 lakh

Hyderabad - Rs 1.76 lakh

Pune - Rs 1.70 lakh
