Nissan unveils its 'SUNNY' sedan for India

by Rahul Basu Posted on 03 Aug 2011105,002 Views19 Comments

Built to cater to the country's premium sedan segment, the vehicle's exterior design offers a refreshing design character. Petrol vesion to be manufactured at the company's plant in Chennai

The premium compact sedan market in India continues to raise the bar higher and higher as the latest iterations of the most globally successful upmarket sedans continue to pour into the country. Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) saw its gloomy days turn to into bright sunlight with the unmitigated success of its Micra hatchback, that continues to fuel the company’s soaring sales charts since its launch last year.

Seeing the fabulous response to its technologically advanced real world performing hatch in India, Nissan is now all set for the launch of its globally accepted mid-sized sedan, the Nissan Sunny here in India. Built on the company’s versatile ‘V’ platform, the Nissan Sunny is more than 45 years in the making , and its latest 10th generation model has been designed and fine-tuned to meet different markets worldwide, out of which developed and emerging markets like the US, China and India are its main focus areas.

Giving the country its first peek at the car earlier today in the city of Mumbai, Nissan has announced that it will launch the car later this year, during the festive months, thus giving its customers something special to look forward to.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India said, “The unveiling of the iconic Nissan Sunny today reinstates our seriousness on business operations in India. It reiterates that we are as per schedule on our Indian plans including future product launches. Nissan Sunny highlights the versatility of the global V- platform that allows us to benchmark ourselves with novel design features for the mid-size segment. The vehicle will offer more value to the discerning customer and carve out a niche amidst competition in the fast growing Indian automobile market.

Nissan is confident that the refreshing design of the Sunny will appeal to a wide range of buyers, including professionals and families with a young mindset. Frontal design cues like the new Nissan signature grille and the jewel like headlights should also add to the car’s overall look and appeal.

Designated as a premium saloon car for India, the new Nissan Sunny has been designed at Nissan Design and Nissan Motor Co Ltd headquarters in Japan along with inputs from 170 countries where it would be sold worldwide. The petrol variant of the Nissan Sunny will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance Orgadam facility in Chennai.

NISSAN SHOULD HAVE GONE IN FOR THE SUNNY N16 OR EVEN ITS CHEAPER COUSIN THE SUNNY B10 TO START WITH. IT WOULD HAVE COSTED LESS TO THE CONSUMER, HENCE TRANSLATING INTO VOLUMES - MAKING MORE NISSANS ON THE INDIAN ROADS

It was wonderful driving Nissan Sunny N16 model as well as FB14 and FB15. It has gone through a lot of changes. Should have come a lot earlier in India, better late than never.

Sunny like Toyota's Qualis is not available in other markets. So why should it be launched in India. They could have come out with such sleek models in other markets as well. The concerns of the readers are right, wait for the price details.

NISSAN cars are generally built with best quality but they will face huge Competition and Pricing pressures from this segment. Also need to work on the Brand identity which is 'no where' now...!

The front bumper is too big. In case ithas to be replaced as it is common in India due to less road space and many scratches etc, it will be a huge task and expense. The bumper should have been sleet with small projection like the older Sunny version seen in Gulf.

It is not economy class sedan, it is premium sedan. Price should be atleast 10 - 15 lakhs... Please dont compare it with Toyota Etios.. Etios starts from 6.5 - 7 lakhs...

100% better looks and good interior than toyota etios, but we should have to wait for nissan pricing.

It won't be competing with the Etios. It'll more likely be squaring offf against pricier cars like the City, the Fiesta and the Vento.

this car doesnt fall in the same bracket as etios, these cant be rivals, this will come against the city....

Nissan at last introuduced their most successful model in India. They should have introduced 'Nissan Classic' in India much earlier.
