The new i30 Wagon takes forward the style and quality of the five-door hatchback while enhancing its practicality thanks to a larger boot

The new-generation Hyundai i30 Wagon will be unveiled during the company’s press conference on March 6, 2012, at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. The i30 Wagon carries the same fluidic design language as on other recent Hyundai cars along with a longer body for increased trunk space.

Like the five-door i30 hatchback, the new i30 Wagon has been designed and engineered at Hyundai’s European R&D centre in Russelsheim, Germany. The length of the new i30 Wagon has been increased by 185 mm compared to its five door sibling. Doing so has led to an increase in trunk space from 378 litres in the five door i30 to a massive and best-in-class 528 litres in the i30 Wagon. Fold down the rear seats and the trunk space increases three fold – 1,642 litres. When viewed from the front, both the i30 Wagon and its five-door sibling look the same with hexagonal grille and jewel-like headlamps. But from the B-pillar to the rear, the Wagon differs significantly with the roofline extending over the flexible passenger/cargo area adding to the dynamism of the car.

A pronounced line runs horizontally along the sides of the body rising all the way to the taillamps. The rear windscreen wraps around the D-pillar, increasing rear visibility with the deep tailgate that provides easy loading in the bay area. The i30 wagon will carry the same engines as the i30 producing 95 PS of power in the petrol motor and 135 PS in the diesel mill. Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “The New Generation i30 has been widely praised for its style, quality, and value. Our new wagon offers all of those attributes plus even greater load-carrying capacity.  We expect it to appeal strongly to those looking for stylish and flexible practicality, especially active families.”

The i30 Wagon is a vehicle inspired for the youth yet with a purposeful and practical packaging that will have more load carrying capacity compared to the five-door i30. The new i30 Wagon buyers will also benefit from the Five Year Triple Care that has a five-year/unlimited kilometres warranty, five years roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.  The prices of the new vehicle will be announced eventually and looking at the practical yet good design language, the i30 Wagon may just reach Indian shores in time.
