Maruti Suzuki has finally brought down the curtains on their Maruti 800, ending its three-decade long-run on the Indian roads. Though the car’s production has stopped, spare parts will be available for customers for the next eight to 10 years.

CV Raman, Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki, India, says, “The last of the Maruti 800 was rolled out last month on January 18. We have to continuously meet customer requirements and make sure that they get all the car parts. Our policy is to keep the spares available for eight to 10 years for all the models, which have been phased out till date. We will continue to follow the same policy for Maruti 800 as well.”

Maruti Suzuki stopped the sales of Maruti-800, a car that revolutionised the Indian Auto industry, in 13 cities including Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kanpur and Pune since April 2010.

Maruti 800 was priced at around Rs 50,000 when it was launched in early 80s. It is now available over Rs 2.35 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi), according to the car maker’s official website.

Maruti 800, a brand that has been the carrier for millions of Indian middle-class families, lost its appeal after customers started migrating to models such as the Alto, Wagon R from Maruti Suzuki’s stable and the Santro produced by Hyundai Motor India, among others.

“We have an emotional connect with the vehicle, but at some point of time, you have to take hard decisions. The transition had to be made,” concludes Raman.
