Indian automobile major, Mahindra & Mahindra is strengthening its two-wheeler operations. Learning the hard way, the company has finally tasted success in the shape of the Mahindra Centuro motorcycle and its 125cc scooter range. And this is the learning Mahindra hopes to employ on its two-wheeler business’ future strategy.
New 110cc scooter
Mahindra is revamping its two-wheeler line-up in India and the first ripples of that action will be seen later this month when the company will introduce three two-wheeler models in India. The most important launch will be Mahindra’s debut 110cc scooter which is code named as ‘Mahindra G101’. Currently the company offers four scooters in India – The Flyte, Duro and Rodeo 125cc scooter and on-the-verge-of-extinction - Mahindra Kine 71.5cc scooter.
Adding to this line-up will be the new Mahindra 110cc scooter which is expected to be more fuel-efficient and more affordable than other Mahindra scooters. The scooter has been spotted a couple of times being tested in Maharashtra and has recently been caught undisguised as well. It has a sharp edged ‘V’ shaped headlight, while the front apron has distinct slits like air-vents. The rear end will have large a tail light, chunk grab rail and a meaty exhaust. The scooter is said to be powered by a 110cc motor producing 8PS and 8.5Nm and mated to a CVT. The new Mahindra 110cc scooter is expected to be priced close to Rs 45,000.
Mahindra Centuro Disc
To strengthen its hold in the commuter motorcycle segment it will launch an updated version of the Mahindra Centuro which will be featuring a petal disc in front. To keep things simple the company prefers to call this version as the ‘Mahindra Centuro Disc’. The front disc equipped Centuro is expected to be priced about Rs 2,000 more than the drum brake version which retails at about Rs 48,808 (ex-showroom Mumbai), undercutting other commuter models like the Hero Passion Pro and Honda Dream Yuga.
Mahindra Rodeo UZO 125
The other model to be introduced will be the Mahindra Rodeo UZO 125. This is just a new variant of the existing Rodeo which is the company’s flagship scooter. In the new variant the 125cc gearless scooter will be offered in black body colour with a sporty crimson stripe running on the front of the scooter and similar graphics on the two side panels. The Mahindra Rodeo UZO 125 will also get contrasting red stitching on the seat; along with a combination of crimson front and black rear wheels. The scooter is expected to be priced around Rs 47,500 (ex-showroom).
Mahindra will launch these three two-wheelers in the last week of August, however, we hope to bring you the review of the new Mahindra G101 110cc scooter before that.
