The Land Rover Discovery Sport will be the company's fifth model to be launched in India

Land Rover Discovery Sport

A year after its global unveil, Land Rover is set to bring in the new Discovery Sport to India. The British car maker has already begun bookings of the new Discovery Sport in mid-August, but will announce the prices and other details tomorrow. This new SUV will replace the aging Freelander 2 and is expected to be priced at about Rs 45-55lakh.

The Discovery Sport gets its design cues from the more premium cousins like the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. The sleek sweptback headlamp cluster and the Land Rover family grille make give it an aggressive stance up front. At the back there is the integrated spoiler and the jet inspired taillights to add to the overall appeal.

Under the hood, the Land Rover Discovery Sport is expected to be launched with three engine options – a 2.0-litre Si4 petrol mated to the 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox option; and the 2.2-litre TD4 and the SD4 engines which come mated to a 9-speed auto or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Anything that rolls off the Land Rover assembly line is sure to be an able off roader and the Discover Sport is expected to be no different. The higher end variants will come equipped with all sort of gizmos to take the off-beat road easier to tread on to. It has a water wading capacity of 600mm and comes with the Terrain Response System that now includes a Dynamic mode.

In the Indian market the Land Rover Discovery Sport will go against the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.
