Land Rover's DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts have been debated about around the world as to their worthiness as replacements to the legendary Defender. The duo have arrived on our shores to push that debate even further

Land Rover Dc100 Concept

Land Rover the iconic off-road vehicle maker made its presence felt at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo with its Defender DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts alongside its road going Freelander2 and Range Rover Sport.

Land Rover’s DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts investigate the potential design direction for a replacement for the iconic Defender which is scheduled to go out of production around the year 2017.

Land Rover Dc100 Sport Concept

DC100 reinvents the essential Defender design cues for the 21st century. These include short overhangs for extreme approach and departure angles, vertical panels, an upright windscreen and strong shoulder line for visibility and ease of positioning and, of course, the honest Defender 'face' with its signature round lamps and prominent grille, incorporating a winch.

The DC100 Sport takes all these key design cues and adds to them the spirit of freedom first embodied by the early canvas-roofed Land Rovers with their fold-down windscreens to create a concept designed to get you as close to nature as possible in a vehicle.

Range Rover Sport

Armed with a 5.0 litre supercharged petrol engine the Range Rover Sport has enough oomph to embarrass some of the finest sports cars of our time. Its lowered suspension coupled with decent drive dynamics makes it quite the tarmac scorcher. But do not think the car has gone all soft even for a bit. The Range Rover Sport’s suspension can be raised and it can take on the Land Rover’s Eastnor Castle proving grounds just as easily as any other Land Rover does before it goes into production.

Land Rover also put on display at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo the most affordable Land Rover on the market, the Freelander2. Built to fill a niche of lifestyle 4x4 vehicle, the Freelander is every bit a Land Rover despite is smaller size. Its compact nature has made it a great city vehicle and thanks to its dimensions it is rather convenient to drive around town. While the car may look like a soft roader of sorts the Land Rover badge should be enough to let everyone know about the pedigree of this car.
