The 1290 Super Duke GT is based on the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, but may get a retuned version of the same 1301cc V-twin engine, which makes about 180PS power

KTM Super Duke 1290 GT spy shot

The new KTM 1290 Super Duke R-based tourer, to be called the 1290 Super Duke GT, has been spotted near a KTM testing facility in Spain.

The GT is expected to use the same 1301cc V-twin which makes a whopping 180PS of power.  From the spy shot, many other components also appear to be shared with the Super Duke R, including wheels, brakes, forks and the main chassis.

It’s the clearest spy shot of the 1290 Super Duke GT, with camouflage tape removed from the front end, giving a clear view of the pointed nose and the tall wind screen. The rear subframe seems to have been reinforced to take on the weight of luggage and panniers for touring.

The 1290 Super Duke GT also gets a wider and taller handlebar than the R, giving a more upright riding position, for long hours on the saddle. The GT will go head on against other contenders in the sport-adventure class, the likes of Ducati Multistrada 1200 and the BMW S1000XR.
