Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (Pvt.) Ltd. (HMSI) recently laid the foundation stone to its upcoming third two-wheeler production plant in South India in order to meet increasing demand in India’s rapidly growing two-wheeler market.

Spread across 350,000 square meters, the third plant is situated at Narsapura Industrial Area of Karnataka (approximately 52km from Bangalore), and is scheduled to become operational in first half of 2013. It will have an initial annual production capacity of 1.2 million units, and the new plant will employ approximately 3,000 associates at its initial production stage.

Utilizing production technologies refined at their existing Manesar and Tapukara plants as a starting point, HMSI will employ advanced automation and other measures at the new plant to reduce the burden on its existing two plants.

With 1.6 million units being produced at its Manesar plant and 1.2 million units at its Tapukara plant, the 1.2 million units capacity plant taking shape at Bengaluru will increase HMSI’s total annual production capacity to 4 million units.

With its diverse portfolio of motorcycles and scooters now available across India, the plant in Karnataka will not only aid faster and more efficient production for the two-wheeler maker, but will also help the company to achieve timely deliveries, especially in the county’s southern states.
