Faulty brake sensors on 47,415 Aveo units due to brake fluid reservoir malfunction will be replaced free of charge

New Chevrolet Aveo

Shanghai’s General Motors will recall its 2012 Aveo models due to faulty brake sensors, the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine said in a notice on its website. The industrial watchdog said that the device would fail to alert drivers of low brake fluid and the malfunctioning brake reservoir will be replaced free of charge.

A joint venture between General Motor Company and SAIC Motor Corporation, Shanghai GM was introduced in China in 1997 and has become the second largest single market for the company. In 2011, the company recorded worthy sales figures despite a broader slowdown in the world’s largest car market. GM sold over 2.20 lakh vehicles in April 2012, rising 11.7 percent from April 2011. The manufacturer was unavailable for comment.

China became the largest car market in the world overtaking the USA in 2009. Of late, recalls have become a rather redundant affair with car companies. Recently, Suzuki had recalled over one lakh of its Swift models excluding India due to faulty fuel supply line. Four incidents were reported.

Despite a decent effort from GM in India, the Aveo somehow failed to catch the fancy of buyers due to its dated design. However, all of that may change with the updated Chevrolet Sail and hatchback models as they would be launched with better engine options accompanied by an oil-burner. It has been a hard time for GM in as the company sales slipped 20 percent in April 2012 selling a little over 8,000 units.
