Jaguar F-Pace in action

Jaguar’s big ticket unveil at the Frankfurt Motor show, the F-Pace is undoubtedly a landmark car for the carmaker. Jaguar is calling it the ‘Ultimate Practical Sportscar’, clearly to distance it from Land Rover and measure up the Porsche Cayenne.

The F-Pace is the production version crossover of the C-X17 concept and going by these pictures, we are glad that it doesn’t look much different. It is a bit toned down in production guise but does look the part of a sporty vehicle. The F-Pace is built on the aluminium intensive platform (80 percent of the body structure) that underpins the new XE. It’s got space for five adults and a massive 650 litre boot.

Powering the F-Pace is a set of new engines again shared with the XE. The new Ingenium range in the F-Pace starts with the 180PS 2.0-litre diesel that comes as a RWD with the manual gearbox and AWD with the automatic gearbox. A RWD, 240PS 2.0-litre variant, and a 3.0-litre automatic AWD petrol in two states of tune – 340PS and 380PS are other petrols on offer. A range topping 300PS 3.0-litre diesel AWD is the big oil burner who want efficiency and performance. Jaguar says that the top end petrol F-Pace can do the 0-100kmph sprint in about 5.1 seconds and has a 250kmph top speed.

The F-Pace tips the scales at 1665kg for the base diesel version, gets LED headlights, 22 inch alloy wheels and the Jaguar activity key which is a waterproof and shockproof wristband with a built in transponder.
