Ferrari 458 Speciale A fetches Rs 5.5 crore at auction

The first example of the 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale A (Aperta)to roll off the production line has managed to fetch an impressive Rs 5.5 crore at an auction

Several carmakers auction off the first model of a new car in the name of charity, and Ferrari is the latest to follow suit with its Ferrari 458 Speciale A. Only 499 units of this supercar will be built, and the first of this was sold at a whopping Rs 5.5 crore in an auction. This auction was organised by the American arm of ‘Daybreak’, a charity that undertakes research to find cures for rare genetic diseases. 

The auction was held in Beverly Hills during the 60th anniversary celebration of Ferrari in United States, and the car was sold by David Gooding, President of car auction firm, Gooding & Company. Benefits from the sale of the Ferrari 458 Speciale A will go to the Daybreak charity.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale A  is a convertible version of the Ferrari 458 Speciale, and features a retractable hard top that opens and closes in just 14 seconds. The first production unit rides on five-spoke forged Grigio Corsa wheels and features a triple-layer yellow body livery with a Blu Nart and Bianco Avus central stripe. Inside, the Ferrari 458 Speciale A features blue carbon fibre on the dashboard and door panels, while the seats have been wrapped around in Alcantara with 3D stitching and 3D technical fabric.

Ferrari 458 Speciale A is equipped with a 4.5-litre V8 naturally-aspirated engine which churns out 605PS of power at 9,000rpm and 540Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. It does the 0-100kmph sprint in just three seconds with a top-speed of over 320kmph.

Ferrari hasn’t revealed the pricing of the other 498 units yet.
