And finally it arrives. Ducati’s much-awaited next-generation flagship superbike, the Panitgale 1199 that the Italian manufacturer has been teasing the world with for a long time made its world appearance at the on-going 69th Milan International Motorcycle Show in front of several media persons. Groundbreaking and radical in every way right from its smooth flowing lines to ultra-light figure weighing just 164kg (dry), the Panigale 1199 is nothing like what Ducati has ever made before. Redefining the fundamentals of Ducati motorcycles, the Panigale’s 1199cc twin-cylinder motor is housed inside a monocoque frame and pumps out staggering 195PS of power.

This beast is not for the faint of heart, yet Ducati has done everything in their might to keep the power friendly and manageable by incorporating a host of technologies like traction control, ABS, ride-by-wire, riding modes and EBC (Electronic Brake Control). The highlight remains on to the Ducati Electronic Suspension system, which is a first of its kind electronically adjustable suspension ever employed on a production superbike. This is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and promising models to roll out of the Borgo Panigale-based factory (where the name comes from) and it also takes the honours for being the most powerful twin-cylinder engine ever made.

By taking the learnings of Ducati Corse in MotoGP and incorporating them in the right manner for road users, Ducati has done a fantastic job with the Panigale 1199. This new flagship of the Italian bike-maker is bound to give its competition sleepless nights as its maker prepares to go laughing to the bank. With a steady 20% growth in Ducati’s year-on-year sales compared to last year’s numbers, the Panigale will go a long way in helping the brand further reinforce its position in the market.
