BMW 1 Series crosses 20 lakh production milestone

The successful journey of the BMW 1 Series still continues after 11 long years. The 1 Series has crossed the 20th lakh production milestone and has rolled of the Bavarian carmaker’s production line in Regensburg, Germany.

Draped in an Estroil Blue paint scheme this five-door hatch will be equipped with a 2.0-litre B48 engine churning out 177PS of power and 250Nm of torque. This 20th lakh vehicle will also receive a M Sport package and will head to its buyer in Japan.

This announcement comes close on the heels of the international launch of the new BMW 1 Series facelift, which is scheduled for March 28, 2015. The 2015 1 Series facelift has received improvements in terms of its exterior and interior styling. The refreshed car receives angular headlamps with LED daytime running lights as standard, a kidney shaped grille and revised tail lamps.

BMW has also revised the cabin of the 2015 1-series facelift, and it now packs a 6.5-inch central display, a centre console-mounted Controller unit and an optional 8.8-inch screen with navigation. There are new upholstery options, chrome surrounds for the buttons and knobs along with glossy black details.

BMW has made some revisions to the engine lineup, but these are in accordance with the Euro specifications. India might get to see the range-topping M135i which will come equipped with a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine churning out 326PS of power and 450Nm of torque. The RWD version sprints from 0-100kmph in 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission and in 4.9 seconds with the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.

The new 2015 BMW 1 Series facelift three-door production will take place at the Bavarian carmaker's Regensburg plant, while the five- door will roll out from both Regensburg and the company’s second plant in Leipzig. This refreshed model is expected to come to the Indian shores before the end of this year.
