At the ongoing Beijing Motor Show, Honda has once again showcased the tenth generation Honda Civic. The same car has already been launched in China earlier this April at a starting price of 1,29,900 Yuan (aprrox Rs 13 lakh). The coupe and hatchback of the tenth generation Civic were also showcased at the last edition of the Geneva Motor Show. However, the company currently has no plans to launch the same in our market.
Honda civic was a runaway success for the company in the Indian market. However, sales of the Civic started declining rapidly with the increase in petrol prices and Honda had to shut down its production in 2013.
The next-generation of the Honda Civic is based on the Japanese carmaker's latest 'Flying H Design' philosophy. The new Civic measures in at 4,649mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,416mm in height. Up front it has quite an aggressive stance thanks to the slim LED headlights on either side of the large chrome grille. Inside, the Civic now sports a stylish dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes equipped with a dual-tone climate control setup. The next generation Honda Civic packs a punch when it comes to safety. It gets ABS with EBD, Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation and Lane Keeping Assist.
The Chinese-spec Honda Civic comes with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 176PS of max power and 220Nm of peak torque. Other markets get the option of a 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol options as well. For India, the Civic is expected to come with the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel option. Both engine options get manual transmissions while only the petrol will be offered with a CVT option.
When launched in India, the Civic will compete with the Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia and the Chevrolet Cruze.
