Audi has officially announced that about 21 lakh vehicles globally have the illegal emissions cheating software imbedded into them. The German luxury car manufacturer is the second largest hit after its parent brand Volkswagen.

Audi emissions test

The bad news for the Volkswagen Auto group seems to continue day by day. As we have reported in the last week, Volkswagen has been in deep trouble following reports of them using a cheating software that essentially helped their cars pass emissions testing when undergoing a test but drastically increased emissions while being used under normal day-to-day circumstances.

Volkswagen had subsequently announced that there were about 11 million or 1.1 crore cars globally that have been affected by this emissions cheating software. The Volkswagen parent company itself is responsible for the biggest chunk of the 1.1 crore vehicles with about 50 lakh affected cars worldwide. Skoda, owned by Volkswagen has announced that about 12 lakh Skoda vehicles worldwide have been affected.

And now it is Audis turn. Audi, one of Germany’s largest automobile manufacturers have announced that 21 lakh Audis are embedded with this emission cheating software and that swift action will be taken to rectify this. From the lot, about 14.5 lakh vehicles are affected in all of Europe with the exception of Germany. Germany itself has about 5.77 lakh vehicles while the USA has about 13 thousand cars.

The cheating device engine features in the cars like the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5. There is no update yet on the 3.0-litre V6 engine that features on most of the range and also in some of the Porsche cars.
