Although TVS Motor didn’t display much that customers would be seeing on showroom floors anytime soon, it still managed to garner considerable attention at the 2016 Auto Expo thanks to a bevy of gorgeous concepts that showcased the direction the company intends to take in the near future. Heading its stall at the Expo were the Aluka310, ENTORQ210, and the X21 concepts.
The first of these, the TVS Akula310, is a direct result of TVS Motor’s exploits in the racing arena. Since 1983, TVS Racing has been competing in all forms of two-wheeled motorsports in the country, and that is where the Akula310 derives it genealogy from. A fully-faired track machine, the Akula310 comes powered by a high-revving engine mated to a quick-shifting six-speed gearbox. Racing goodies abound on the bike, including USD forks, radial calipers, highly stiff space frame chassis as well as lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, full function digital speedo, on board gyro cameras and a steering damper for additional stability.
Aluminium sub frame and the cast alloy swing arm keep the dynamics under control and gives flexibility to the rider. The heat management gills in the body as well as dorsal fin underneath the seat gives it’s a characteristic shape and aids in aerodynamic efficiency. This characteristic shape gives it a shark-like look thus giving its name AKULA which means shark in Russian.
By contrast, the ENTORQ210 concept is a touring scooter that has been developed in-house at TVS, and designed to be as at home in the city as while cruising on the streets. Futuristic in its design, the scooter is based on TVS Motor’s next generation ‘Platform Technology’ that is characterized by a lightweight high-grade steel chassis and a suspension system that comprises of an inverted fork and a monoshock at the rear. Putting it all down are large wheels shod with radial tubeless tyres anchored by roto-pedal brake discs with ABS at the front.
Motive power on the ENTORQ comes from an all-aluminium 212.5 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel injected engine, mated to an advanced Variomatic transmission system, capable of reaching a top speed of 120 km/h.
Then finally, there’s the X21 concept racer, a racing interpretation of the company’s recently launched TVS Apache RTR 200. The X21’s 212.4 cc, four valve engine comes with fuel injection and twin oil coolers providing a more efficient oil circulation and cooling system. Instrument console on the X21 includes a digital speedometer, a digital tachometer, a trip meter, clock, acceleration timing, and a lap timer.
