Like all other automobile extravaganzas, the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo too is not just about the present but about the future too. Thus eyeing potential opportunities, various manufacturers have put up a slew of concept vehicles in their pavilions at the ongoing biennial event, in Greater Noida. We take a look at hottest of these concepts in the motorcycle quarters.

Akula 31

TVS Akula 310

TVS has thrown in one of the biggest surprises of the 2016 Auto Expo with its new supersports concept, the Akula 310, which has been designed and created in association with BMW. The name ‘Akula’ has been inspired from Russian submarines of the same namesake that translates into ‘shark’ in English. And by the looks of it, the TVS Akula 310 lives up to its predator-like moniker, with a brawny and muscular design, huge saddle, and a monster of a fuel tank. TVS Motor hasn’t revealed any powertrain details, but we expect the TVS Akula 310 to house a 300cc, single-cylinder motor underneath the fairing.

Xtreme 200 S

Hero Xtreme 200 S

Talking of astonishments, Hero MotoCorp also let one out of its hat by taking the covers off the Xtreme 200 S. What makes the new motorcycle special is the fact that it is the most powerful naked Hero motorcycle yet. With the 150-200cc market witnessing heartening growth in India in the recent past, this move could actually pay dividends to Hero. The Indian manufacturer has equipped the Xtreme 200S with a 4-stroke 200cc engine which is an all new powerplant. The bike delivers a maximum power of 18.6PS and maximum torque of 17.2Nm.

Mojo

Mahindra Mojo Scrambler and Adventure Tourer duo

In a totally fresh range of colours, the adventure tourer and scrambler concepts of the Mojo were unveiled at the Mahindra pavilion in Greater Noida. Featuring Matte Red, Orange and White-Orange colour themes, some of the bikes were seen kitted up with various accessories like red handlebar-end weights, wheel hub-mounted crash protectors, red accents on the brake master cylinder, engine components, and handlebar clamp. Powered by a 300 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, the maximum power on the Mahindra Mojo is 27.3 PS while torque peaks at 30 Nm.

Honda CX-02

Following its predecessor, the CX-01, that was showcased at the previous edition of the Expo, the Honda CX-02 made its way into the ongoing one. The concept sports separate LED headlamps for low- and high-beam, twin LED DRLs, a narrow and tall visor, hand guards with integrated turn indicators, a semi-fairing that emerges from the fuel tank, inverted fork, multi-spoke alloy wheels coated in black, disc brakes with Nissin callipers, and ABS among a host of features. As for the engine, it is powered by an in-line twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor.

X21

TVS X21

There was something at the expo from Indian manufacturers for racing fans too. TVS Racing, the motorsports arm of TVS Motors, unveiled the TVS X21 concept, with the road going Apache RTR 200 as its base template. The bike is powered by a bored-out 212.4 cc, fuel-injected, four valve engine, tuned for high revs. Twin oil coolers provide a more efficient oil circulation and cooling system, while twin straight flow air filters contribute to cleaner combustion and twin free flow canisters discharge exhaust gases and produce the signature RTR grunt. Telescopic forks perform suspension duties on the front while a gas-charged monoshock takes charge at the rear.
