The Swedish carmaker has revealed details about the engine line-up which will power the upcoming 2015 Volvo XC90. The company describes it as being the world's most powerful and cleanest SUV. The all-wheel-drive seven-seater XC90 promises drivers up to 400PS of power but with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of around 60g/km adhering to the standards of New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
Peter Mertens, Senior Vice-President, Research and Development, Volvo Car Group, said, “There are no compromises when you drive an all-new XC90. In the past you could either have power or low CO2 emissions. But with the all-new XC90 you can have both.”
The all-new Volvo XC90 will be offered with an array of four-cylinder Drive-E engines which includes a D5 twin-turbodiesel delivering 225PS of power and 470Nm of torque. With this engine under its hood the 2015 Volvo XC90 promises to provide fuel-efficiency figures of around 16.5kmpl. Volvo claims that its D4 oil-burner will churn out 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque to provide fuel consumption of 20kmpl.
The XC90 will also be available with the petrol engine options, which includes the T6 turbocharged and supercharged engine churning out 320PS of power and 400Nm of torque, and a T5 engine delivering 254PS of power and 350Nm of torque.
The 2015 Volvo XC90 will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid model wearing the T8 badge with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine powering the front wheels and an 80PS electric motor driving the rear axle. The combined output stands at 400PS and 640Nm and the vehicle will have an all-electric range of up to 40km.
Volvo has already announced that its 2015 XC90 will be fully revealed next month.
