Nissan launches the 370Z sports car in India!

Muntaser Mikar 20 Jan 2010

Nissan has finally launched the fabulous 370Z sports car in India in 8 body colours with the options of a 7-speed auto and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

It's been one of the most revered names in sports car line ups for decades now. Over the 6 generations that the Z name has survived, Nissan has offered enthusiasts a powerful and fun to drive, yet practical machine the World over. Models that spanned legends like the 240Z, 300ZX and the 350Z 'Fairlady' have found their way into hearts of millions of owners around the globe and have won numerous awards in addition to being preferred tools of choice for a wide variety of motorsports. The latest in that family is the 370Z - a car that has already won 9 awards since it was launched early in 2009 - around the same time that ZigWheels drove it in Japan (check related links for drive story).

The Nissan 370Z has finally made it to Indian shores and will be available in a choice of 8 body colours with two gearbox options. The front-mid mounted engine is in itself a marvel of technology packing 3.7 litres in its V6 layout. The aluminum-alloy unit puts out 332 horses at 7000rpm and is coupled to either a 7-speed auto 'box or a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters and downshift SynchroRev sounds like the preferred option that will rake in sales in the country, the 6-speed manual with SynchroRev is the more fun unit.

The Nissan 370Z with the automatic gearbox will be available for a price of Rs 54.5 lakh and the 6-speed manual slightly cheaper at Rs 53.5 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. Nissan expects to sell around 2-4 cars per month initially, but given the car's extremely practical pedigree, those figures seem pretty modest indeed.

fairlady at last in india its almost better than 350z.it has the bulk of a sports can and can be rugged to a top speed of 190 something and should cost ex -showroom 46lakhs.its interiors are much like gt-r.why does nissan always challenges the porsche?i wonder.ride must be smooth .get ready for the street racers.the tyre ratio is also good and the engine splits a 50:50 rear and front.looks good drives fab.u can visit my site at www.gigamotorsltd.com | Reply

It looks like the GTR in a lot of ways. A really good car... the offspring of the successful 350Z. As for its price ,,, i wish there kept it in the 20 lakh range. The govt. really needs to lower those import duties... | Reply

It should not be horses. You have to see the initial pick up. Ex: 0 to 60 miles per hour or 0 to 100 miles per hour. BHP is nothing but the energy produced at its maximum speed. Imagine 350 Bhp is produced at 200 miles an hour, you are never going to drive at 200 mph. You have take torque into consideration while talking about Bhp. | Reply
Ethan (28 January 2010 18:36) Reply to Bharath Baddam
Mmmm Baddam,0-60 MPH in under 5.5 secs. - this answers your Q. And to correct you, its 330 BHP to be precise. Also a thing the article didn't mentioned is all the cars with limited slip differential and a special setting that blips the throttle as you change gear.. this feels great.TopGear episode on this is a must watch. | Reply

Are you guys out of your mind or what. Try and undertand the economics behind car making and the brand image that a company has to retain. What do you expect, 370z to cost Rs. 20Lac, and then people are gonna say what kinda crap would they be selling for Rs. 20lac considering the specs it comes with. I think Rs. 50 lac although expensive is the right price for it. Its meant for the elite not for the masses | Reply
Bharath Baddam (22 January 2010 05:52) Reply to Ashish
This is not Lamborghini or Ferrari, for that matter it is not even GT-R. It is sold for 20 lakhs in the rest of the world. Taxes are making it expensive in India, that's what we tried to say. And Economics is not just selling it expensive. Did you ever read about Griffin goods? People talking about Economics know it, probably you know. That's where it falls because of the taxes but not because it is worth 55 lakhs. | Reply
NVL (05 February 2010 12:26) Reply to Bharath Baddam
hmm 50 is to much 20 lac is the right price i agree with all who say 20 is the right price . wish mumbai was duty free like Dubai:) | Reply

Som (22 January 2010 11:59) Reply to Bharath Baddam
I have to agree with Bharath. The car's sold for 20L in rest of the world, and its USP is that its THE "affordable sports car". The outrageous tax on imports in India is pushing it into the luxury bracket.
Som (22 January 2010 12:02) Reply to Bharath Baddam
@ Bharath: Its actually a Veblen good, and not Giffen. Disclaimer: Ppl not interested in economics can safely ignore the comment... :)

there is an excellent car called Nissan Versa here in US. available both as a sedan and hatchback with the Base 1.6L Sedan starting from $9990 (taxes extra) and going all the way to $16100 for 1.8 SL Sedan/Hatch and it looks quite good too, unlike the Logan. the 1.6L Base has a lot of potential in India. Imagine getting 6 Airbags at that price of $9990 and the interiors are quite good too,not like some budget cutting job. if Nissan wants to enter the volumes market in India, this is the car we want in India. | Reply
Sunil (21 January 2010 17:42) Reply to Sunil
now before somebody points out that Renault makes Logan and not Nissan, the reason i compared it to the Logan is because of their dimensions | Reply

These cars will be coming to India via CBU route. i.e. negligible jobs creation in India. If Indian govt does not levy heavy taxes on such cars, China, Korea, Japan | Reply
  • pradeepsiddharth (21 January 2010 09:46)
In Dubai the same is priced less than 25 Lakh the government is killing all the enthusiasts by putting high such levies on cars. It is such a marvellous car.We expected the prices less than 40 for this car. | Reply

It is very unfortunate that indian car buyers always had to pay exhorbitantly high prices to get somewhat outdated models in internation market....No Car manufacturer is bringing/launching the car in India at the same time they lauch it to the rest of the world...India always gets it late...yet Indian people people always have to pay more....buyers decide the market...not the sellers.....so my dear fellow indian car buyers, before buying any car, please check the internation price/features of the car and then decide whether it is worth paying the money hard earned! | Reply
AJ (21 January 2010 08:20) Reply to Annamalai
