Honda Jazz launched!

Honda Jazz launched!

Honda SIEL has launched its much awaited premium hatchback, the Jazz, in Delhi. Pricing is in line with expectations. Read on to find out!

Honda Jazz

Honda SIEL has finally taken the wraps off the Honda Jazz hatchback in Delhi today. Pricing is right where we had expected it, in the region of Rs 7 lakh.

Skoda Superb

The spacious hatchback will come with a single engine option for now - the techno-laden 1.2-litre SOHC iVTEC powerplant. The engine is good for a class-leading 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque. Despite this, Honda's techno-wizardry makes this a very frugal powerplant too - we haven't tested it yet, only driven it, but ARAI certifies it to be in the region of 16 kmpl. Utilitarian aspects of the car are key too, and the Jazz offers the advantages of hatchback compactness with near-sedan space.

The car has been launched in three variants - the Basic Jazz carries a price tag of Rs 6.98 lakh. The Jazz Mode variant is the family utility version with body side mouldings, corner protectors to prevent parking scratches, mud flaps and funky lit-up garnishes on the side step and will retain for Rs 7.28 lakh. The top-end Jazz Active is the sporty variant of the hatch with sport pedals, body coloured front grille, fog lamps and a smart spoiler at the top of the tailgate. This variant has been priced at Rs 7.33 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Variant
Price
 Jazz basic  Rs.6,98,000/-
 Jazz Mode  Rs.7,28,000/-
 Jazz Active  Rs.7,33,000/-
(All prices ex-showroom Delhi)

I'm a regular mover on Bombay roads, I see all new cars with propt attention and awe. i make some research on which car is most visible after its launch. I compare their looks and pickups etc. I find Honda zazz is visible one in nearly in a Bombay drining for 4 hrs, 19-sep-09, while i20 has really picked up recently. I20 is going to give Swift a run for sure, while Zazz will remain the last in the category. | Reply

They have lost it. They dont want to admit it. the dealers are exasperated and the sales people are helplessNow this season they are doing the Indian consumers a favour. Buy one honda car and you may be the lucky winner every week.Ever heard of the stork which hides his face in the sand pretending that it cannot see the impending threat.Honda seems to have done exactly that. When jazz is available in Dubai for 5 lakhs and that too with 1500 CC engine what justification does Honda have to overprice the car in India. And I understand they even pocketed the excise concession. | Reply

The perception of small cars in India is around 4.5 lacs max but Jazz priced at 7 lacs will surely not drive the market. Over and above there are very many options for small cars these days. Honda has goofed up on the pricing strategy.. | Reply

"Honda Jazz: Why So Serious??"Honda must be kidding. You priced your tin box so high that the guys who were eagerly waiting for it are infect seriously think that its OVERPRICED!! Why not buy a Ford Fiesta 1.4 Duratorq ZXI (Rs. 7.37L) or Fiesta 1.6 Duratec SXI (Rs. 6.99L) or for that matter a Linea Emotion Pk (Rs. 7.24L Petrol or 8.35L Diesel)? | Reply

you are right "MANN", but Honda is not providing any xtra ordinary feature, in this overpriced hatchback. In India mostly hatchback is taken by the people who can't go for big Sedan/SUV. Running high priced hatchback is not at all a status symbol in India. May be it in Europe/US but atleast not in India, therefore honda should study the Indian market first and should price it's vehicle accordingly.Even if you see i20's, people are going for it's base model(Magna) more than top model Asta, Asta(o) since pricing of top model is going beyond 6L on road. | Reply

This is INDIA !!!!!The pricing .... It was the main reeason why Honda was not so sure to launch JAZZ in India for years now..... Finally they came out with a wonderful hatchback and people never mind comparing it to sedans and pseudo SUVs...... Quality come for a price and i dont think its too heavily priced.... Ex Showroom price could have been kept under 7 lakh mark and that have been all so perfect ..... In India people dont compare cars they compare the measurements of the cars....... Thats INDIAN Automotive market .......and thats a HARSH REALITY. | Reply

I think the pricing of Honda Jazz is atrocious. Instead of buying Jazz at 8.10 lakh it is better to buy Ford fiesta at 6.25 lakhs (Sedan) which is really a value for money. It seems honda is either overconfident or they think indian buyers are fools and they will lap up anything just on brand value. | Reply

I think JAZZ in over priced by Honda by saying its a good quality car, But I don’t think this car can beat Hyundai I20, Maruti Swift in any competition in this price tag customer can go various sedans like Ford feasta, Hyundai Verna both are good cars and fairly successful on Indian Road conditions. I think Honda should think again, If they don’t want get out of Indian car market drop price of JAZZ. | Reply

For the last 3 months I was actively looking out for JAZZ. I owned the New Honda city. Compared to Martui, Hyndai, Fiat the Honda is unbeatable for their interiors, finish, engine, maintenance costs etc.. Ex showroom price in Coimbatore for the base version is 7.18 LK and on road its 8.1 LK. The JAZZ is very spacious esp the front, driver and co-passengher side. I liked the car, but a big.. big... BUT I don't know if i want to own one! I don't know on what rationale to buy it. Max 6.75 LK onroad would have made JAZZ a BO hit! (The Honda sales guy said the Honda City base model would be dis-continued that costs 9.02 LK on road here. Don't know how reliable info it is!) | Reply

In time to come .. Honda will realize that all the money they poured in to the Jass just made life easier for the Fiat Grande Punto .. I am sure those people waiting for the Jazz are going to lap up the GP . .atleast I know I am | Reply

I dont think anyone goes for a hatch back car bcoz of comfort, parkin reasons, mileage...its just bcoz they cant afford the price for a sedan. Now Jazz's prcing is much above a sedan...by arranging another 1lakh, they can go for a Honda City... | Reply

This is going to be Honda's first flop car in India...It is exactly on the platform of Skoda Fabia when it was launched , then years later Skoda realised that they actually have priced Fabia 2too much..Now when they have realised it , its too late the sales of Fabia still not picking up even wid a smaller engine and below5lac range ..7lakh for a 1.2l , is way beyond asking from an "Indian Cost Conscious Consumer". No matter,Honda may have to import some of Jazz parts from outside India..but its their lookout to manage cost...will think of buying it , .Its a sure sure flop show..! | Reply

Guys,Honda is cheating!!! i mean really is. I bought a City ZX nearly an year ago, only for the reason that a new city was not on the map at all. The all new city then(anversary version) only had abs and bags that too at a price of 10Ls. So i settled for a GXI what happens a year later, we get an all new city. I always heard of the Jazz coming up and i felt the ZX boot was a waste for me, so was thinking of trading in the City for this Jazz. But gosh at WHAT PRICE , 8L for the High end. No go Honda is going to either reduce it or lose out.Reminds me of another overpriced japanese brand Sony. | Reply

HONDA JA ZZZZZZ I jyotish ramcharan dwivedi predict that the SUPERFLOP CAR of the decade in India will be HONDA JAZZ and pricing will be the main reason for BEING SUPERFLOP and also launching 1.2 ltr car at 1.5 ltr price and also petrol version for this price of 8 lacs plus in mumbai, where you can very well get the best diesel sedan for the same price. The japanese are known to be practical and intelligent people. But this time may be they were busy enjoying sushi when the pricing decision must have been taken for honda jazz.HONDA will become ANDA AFTER this superflop car which will make the whole pricing team loose their jobs.the second reason is manufacturing this car at noida instead of rajasthan.the labour quality is much better in rajasthan than in noida and honda never does quality compromise .So jazz will go the fabia way .I also predict this will be a best seller in the used car market like baleno after 1 year.So all you guys wait for 1.5 ltr honda jazz which is expected but now as 1.2 ltr is superflop so honda may not have money to eat sushi so may discard plan to make 1.5 ltr honda jazz which is actually the best hatchback car in the segment across europe and asia.Dear Dikra Sorabjee and Adil dikra jazz uk version cannot be compared with noida version for test drives becoz of indian road conditions. | Reply

Honda cannot fool Indian peoples by its brand image. The price of Jazz was kept higher than the City in many european countries, but in India they kept just below it. but still indian consumers aren't that fool to buy jazz at such price where there are many options available to buy saloon cars.I think they should behave properly with indian peoples | Reply

This is ridiculous pricing...but I am somehow nor surprised. Honda has built up a great brand value in India and is trying to encash it with pricing like these...may be they want to sell this car as a niche product...not many people will buy it anyways considering the fact that you get decent sedans like SX4, Linea and Fiesta in that price range. Are hatches that hot in India? Only time will tell. Right now, the sedans rule the Indian consumer's imagination and aspirations. | Reply

The last time I checked .. we were still not considered amongst developed nations?? BUTCars are more expensive than in US, Homes are more expensive than in US. Clothes / shoes are more expensive than in the US. Income Taxes are higher than in the US. Electronic items like TVs, mobiles etc are more expensive here .. A half way decent road .. and they charge tolls which would shame the US toll collectors .. but guess what .. I don't seem to make as much money here in India .. While I have a decent salary, higher than most I *think* .. BUT I don't make as much money as in the US .. what's wrong with these people .. how are they getting away with what can be best termed as bloody highway robbery | Reply

Today, Honda is able to command high prices for its cars just because of lack of good competition from its arch rivals (Toyota and Nissan) absence from aggressive positioning of their equivalent vehicles. Honda's wings need to be clipped with healthy competition from Toyota and others. The way Honda escalated price of City from Rs. 6 - 8 Lac range to now Rs 8 - 9 Lac range, reflects their over-confidence also. Secondly, they have made room for positioning Jazz in the earlier price bracket of City i.e. Rs. 7 - 7.5 Lac. Jazz though may be a revolutionary product but the pricing doesn't seem to be appropriate and reflects over-confidence (or may be greed) of Honda Cars India Team. | Reply

I think honda people need to hire some educated people who do pricing. Stupid professionals price the car high to make their profits good even if there are fewer sales. They should focus on making money by keeping prices low and selling the cars in high volumes. This is really ridiculous pricing. Honda will never ever make profits in the lines of Maruti 800 through Jazz. Ford Ikon diesel at 5.5 Lakhs is very sensible decision instead of buying overpriced scrap at 7 lakhs. | Reply

From the day one, when India opened its doors for the car companies, I noticed the pricing for the cars, they sell too expensive. Look at the prices in U.S., it is cheaper than in India. As well as the petrol prices. Someone has to maintain the cars for few years before buying a new one. Japanese think, Indians minting money in their back yard. Prices has to come down on all the cars in India. Not only that Indian government has to do something about it. I live in U.S., but I do little checking on the prices of the cars in India. This is ridiculous. Thanks | Reply
