The pre-production Simple One had potential, but quality fell short. The EV wasn’t up to the mark even post launch

Simple took its time, and recently launched the Simple One Gen 2

The Gen 2 looks largely unchanged, which works, as the original design still feels sporty

Quality levels have improved significantly, with better plastics, switchgear, panel fit, and screen interface

Despite clear progress, the Gen 2 still isn’t segment-leading, with small gaps around key panels remaining

Underneath, the chassis has been strengthened, alongside new battery options and different motor tunes

The tested 5kWh version delivers stronger performance, but the improvement isn’t as dramatic as expected

New Eco X mode prioritises range accuracy but dulls throttle response, making overtakes slow, forcing you to plan ahead

Air mode feels like the best balance, offering brisk performance without excessive range compromise

Sonic X unlocks a higher top speed, but drains the battery noticeably faster than Sonic mode

Handling has improved noticeably, with stable cornering and predictable behaviour that encourages spirited riding

Overall, the Gen 2 fixes earlier quality issues, but value-conscious buyers may be better off skipping the top variant
