We recently rode the Triumph Speed T4 and here are our thoughts on the bike:

Looks identical to the Speed 400 except for the telescopic fork, stalk type mirrors and the matte black finish on the exhaust
398.15cc engine produces low power & torque output but gets better bottom-end grunt due to a heavier flywheel
Motor is very responsive & tractable — Smaller rear sprocket with taller gearing produces smooth performance at 100kmph in 6th gear
Mechanical throttle body’s response feels very smooth and predictable, especially at slow speeds
Ride quality feels plush for the most part — Soft front suspension absorbs bumps well — Rear suspension feels stiff & jarring
The bike tips into corners in a predictable manner — Very easy to cut through traffic — Tyres provide good grip even on wet roads
Verdict: The Speed T4 feels more retro than the Speed 400 with its easy going nature and predictable handling characteristics
If you are used to riding bikes with 30PS or more power & want a quick neo-retro roadster that’s very good for highway use, then the Speed 400 will suit you better
The T4 is not just a cheaper Speed 400. It is a great neo-retro roadster for city commutes and occasional highway rides
