Expert's Opinion on VX2
Overview
Overview
- The Hero Vida VX2 is Hero MotoCorp's latest offering in the electric scooter segment, designed for urban commuters looking for practicality, affordability, and smart features. It is available in two variants; VX2 Go and VX2 Plus and offers various options to suit different needs and budgets. The scooter stands out with its unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, which lowers the initial cost of ownership. The VX2 aims to provide a modern EV experience at a competitive price point. While it may not be the most premium or high-performance e-scooter on the market, the VX2 strikes a good balance between functionality and value, making it a choice to consider for everyday city use.
Design
Minimalistic with a dash of funkiness
- Clean family-oriented design language with flowing lines
- Seven colour options to choose from including Nexus Blue, Pearl Black, Matte Lime, Pearl Red, Matte White, Autumn Orange, & Metallic Grey (with orange accents)
- Unique looking LED DRLs at the front and rear set it apart
- Gets removable batteries for charging convenience
- Build quality could have been more premiumMirrors are not easily adjustable
- The styling will not be appreciated by riders who want a sporty scooter
- The key could have been built better as it was getting jammed in the ignition
Performance & Mileage
A Peppy Family Scooter
- 6 kW PMS motor delivers quick acceleration.
- The Plus variant of the scooter has a claimed 0–40 kmph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds
- It has an IDC estimated range of 142km
- It gets three riding modes: Eco, City, and Sport
- Boost mode is a feature that allows riders to extract sport mode performance when they are in Eco or City mode to make quicker overtakes without having to switch modes
- The performance in Eco mode is surprisingly peppy and I was able to climb a steep slope with a pillion on board.
- In sport mode, I was able to achieve a top-speed of around 80kmph which is adequate performance for a family-oriented scooter
- Highway performance is decent but to be fair, this is not a scooter that was meant to be ridden long distances
Battery & Charging
Battery & Charging
- The Plus variant of the scooter has a real world riding range of 100km in Eco mode
- We did find that the scooter can give around 75km of range with a mix of riding in Eco and Ride with boost mode activated
- The Plus variant we were riding takes 5.39 hours to fully charge
- With BaaS (Battery as a Service) subscription, customers can choose a plan based on their usage and pay quarterly or half yearly
- The Go variant with a single battery pack has a riding range of 64km in Eco mode, 48km in Ride mode and misses out on Sports mode
Handling
Light and Nimble
- With a really light kerb weight, the Vida VX2 is easy to ride and feels nimble while changing direction
- 12-inch wheels make the ride feel really smooth
- Go variant has drum brakes at both ends
- Rear monoshock tuning feels stiff over rough roads.
Ride Quality
Ideal for short commutes
- For a rider, the ride quality is really good on well-paved roads
- The scooter feels really light and is easy to maneuver
- The brakes do a decent job of getting the scooter to stop with CBS
- The rear suspension feels firm for a pillion when riding over speedbreakers or through potholes
Comfort & Storage
Ample storage space despite removable batteries
- The Plus variant gets a pillion backrest as standard
- A rider is seated comfortably for short distance commutes
- Gets decent underseat storage with 33.2 litres on the Go variant (single battery), and 27.2 litres on the Plus
- Additional apron cubby holes and front USB charging port add practicality
- Seat height of around 777mm makes it accessible for most riders
- Not ideal at higher speeds or for longer distances; it feels firm over rough surfaces
Features
More than adequate for daily commutes
- The Plus variant of the VX2 comes with a 4.3-inch TFT screen with turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, ride analytics, OTA updates, SMS/call alerts, and more
- The scooter gets a Park mode and can be reversed by applying negative throttle
- The combined braking system works well on the Plus variant
- Base Go variant misses out on the TFT screen and some features
Verdict
Should You Buy The Hero Vida VX2?
- Good value for money
- Depending on your use case, buying the scooter outright is also affordable and might be cheaper than getting it with the BaaS (Battery as a Service) subscription
- Removable battery design makes it convenient to charge at home or office
- BaaS subscription might turn out to be more expensive after a few years depending on the selected plan
