Ducati Monster 821 action

Ducati is all set to make a grand re-entry into the Indian two-wheeler market officially under the guidance of its parent company Audi. Among its desirable portfolio, the Ducati Monster 821 will be among the most popular models in our country. The Ducati Monster 821 will replace the Monster 795/796 in India and will be the new entry level Monster offering. The Ducati Monster 821 will make its debut in our market by June, 2015. ZigWheels was invited for the Asia ride of the Ducati Monster 821 and a review of the above will be live on the website soon. The Ducati Monster 821 is expected to be priced around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In the Indian two-wheeler space, the Ducati Monster 821 will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Z800 and the Triumph Street Triple.

The Monster, which made its debut in 1993, is now one of most recognised shapes in the motorcycling world and has been Ducati’s bread and butter model ever since. The Monster 821 is the third generation of the motorcycle in the past 22 years of it being in production. The new Ducati Monster 821 might sport new styling but its silhouette remains unmistakably Monster-ish. Originally designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi, the Monster has evolved in terms of design over the years without losing its design ethos - narrow, naked, and simple. The current designers haven’t fiddled with this ethos and the new offering still has the roundish headlamp, which is housed neatly between the meaty front forks and bulbous tank with a subtle knee recess. The trademark trellis frame is still present albeit in a more compact dimension and sits sandwiched between the chunky radiator and tank.

Powering the new Monster is an 821cc, Testastretta, liquid-cooled motor churning out 113PS of power and torque rating of 90Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheels via a six speed transmission. The engine is a fully-stressed member of the chassis and is mounted - in Panigale-style - on the tubular steel trellis frame. Ducati has been generous with features on the Monster 821 as it sports an eight-level traction control, ride-by-wire throttle with three riding modes that can be selected by user-friendly pushbuttons. In terms of design, the new bike is visually similar to the Monster 1200, the major difference being that it employs an all-new double-sided swing arm and a restyled tail tidy.
