One Gen 1 Key Highlights
Price: Simple Energy One price starts at Rs. 1.09 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Standard variant. Simple will also offer an additional battery pack with an extended range and that variant has been priced at Rs 1,49,999.
Design: Simple has taken a minimalistic and futuristic approach to designing the One. Yes, the design similarities to the Ather 450X are very much evident, especially the triangular headlight. However, it has a flared body with lots of cuts and a sharp tail unit. The grab handle is thick and chunky too.
Features: Simple Energy has equipped the Simple One with an LED headlight, a 7-inch instrument console, and Bluetooth navigation. Moreover, you can also take phone calls, listen to music, and even store documents. Not just that, the Simple One also gets OTA updates, geo-fencing, a tyre pressure monitoring system and vehicle tracking among other things. Connectivity provisions include a 4G LTE sim and Bluetooth. The Simple One gets a 30-litre underseat storage capacity and weighs 110kg.
Motor: The Simple One Standard variant is powered by a 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery and claims to offer 236km (Indian Driving Cycle) range in Eco mode. Meanwhile, the top speed is claimed to be 105kmph. However, it has introduced a new additional battery variant which boasts a 6.4kWh battery with a claimed IDC range of over 300km. Moreover, the EV maker also claims that the One can sprint from 0 to 40kmph in 2.85 seconds, making it the quickest scooter on sale in India. The 4.8kW motor has a peak power rating of 8.5kW and 72Nm of torque. What makes the One unique is that unlike its rivals, it gets a chain drive system. It uses a traditional underbone chassis and is propped up by a telescopic fork and monoshock setup. Disc brakes at both ends of the scooter get the added assurance of CBS. Lastly, 12-inch alloy wheels should provide adequate stability to the One while cornering or zipping through traffic.
Rivals: It rivals the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube ST and the Tork Kratos electric motorcycle.
Range: One Gen 1 can go upto 212 km/charge after a full charge.
Pros and Cons of One Gen 1
- Thrilling performance; Great range claims; Sporty and confident handling setup; Fantastic pricing
- Plastics and fitment levels are far from desirable; Delivery timelines are still far too long
The Simple One has the makings to be India’s best electric scooter. It excites you with its performance and also has a big battery to quash your range anxiety fears. Now, Simple has to get the delivery timelines and quality levels up for it to be a no-brainer.
