Hyundai Eon

Small, peppy and frugal, the Eon is the new generation Maruti 800. And all of us here are in love with it. After driving the big sedans around town, the tiny Eon feels great to punt around in the city. It just darts through the narrowest of gaps and literally feels like a boon. The 3-cylinder engine is quite perky and responds to the slightest of throttle inputs making it an absolute joy. It’s quite frugal too and even in the trafficky Pune roads with the aircon turned returned a thrifty 13.8 kmpl. Then there is the parking.

The Eon has to be the easiest car to park in India; in fact I’d rate it better than the Nano as well since latter lack power steering. There are a few downers though. The ride quality for instance comes across as pretty stiff. Even minor bumps can be felt thanks to the tiny 13 inch wheels. When it comes to the insides, any and every first timer is simply blown away with the details and equipment. There is adequate space too when you compare it to its nearest rivals. The odo just shows 1517 km on the clock and the coming months will see a lot more piling on. Keep watching this space.
