It’s not every day that a classic Ferrari comes up for sale. So on August 16th when the 275 GTB/C Speciale with chassis number 06701 rolls on the stage expect an auction frenzy with some crazy amount of money being quoted for this rare Ferrari. The car will be the star of show at the annual Monterey, California auction. The Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale is the first of the only three Berlinetta Competizione cars built by the iconic Italian marquee for FIA to get it homologated for premiere class of endurance racing. Each of the cars were hand crafted and were fitted with lightweight aluminium bodywork. In terms of design, the Ferrari  275 GTB/C Speciale might not live up to evoking lines of the other Scaglietti crafted marvel and its predecessor, the Ferrari 250 GTO still it remains one of the most gorgeous classic Ferrari’s ever built.

Powering the car is a 3.3-litre displacement V12 motor adorned with six Weber carburettors churning out 315PS. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheels by a five-speed manual transaxle gearbox with the fabled open metal gate shifter. The 275 GTB/C Speciale was also the first Ferrari to employ an independent rear-suspension setup and other interesting features included disc brakes all around and dazzling Borani wire wheels. While its sibling chassis no. 06885 had won its class at Le Mans, the above mentioned car has always been a road car and participated in a few historic racing events.

But all this history, legacy and beauty come at a price as RM Auctions feel the Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale would sell for around $34.1 million or Rs 205 crore. This doesn’t come as a revelation as according to many collectors its sibling’s chassis no. 06885 and 07185 are with prominent collectors who don’t intend to sell their prized possessions in the near future. If the 275 GTB/C Speciale manages to sell at the estimated Rs 205 crore, then it will become the most expensive Ferrari car to be ever sold in the auction. Still though, the record for the most expensive Ferrari ever sold remains the elusive Ferrari 250GTO that traded hands at a private auction for an eye-popping Rs 312.5 crore. The current record for the most expensive car to be ever sold in an auction is held by the Mercedes-Benz W196: Fangio's Mercedes-Benz becomes most expensive car ever sold in auction
