A leaked sketch has emerged in which the interior of the SUV looks like a cleaner version of the 2020 Hyundai Creta

  • Hyundai recently launched the facelifted Tucson in India.

  • Spy shots during testing reveal a more prominent front grille.

  • Leaked interior sketch indicates a minimalistic futuristic design.

  • The current-gen Hyundai Tucson facelift retails for Rs 22.30 lakh to Rs 27.03 lakh.

Hyundai has begun development work for the next-generation of its mid-size SUV, the Tucson. The recently facelifted SUV has received quite some updates, but a leaked sketch of its interiors shows a more futuristic approach towards styling. Hyundai has straight up denied releasing any design sketches, but French forum WorldScoop has something different to say.

The leaked sketch shows a minimalistic design inspired by the second-gen Hyundai Creta, especially the T-top panel on the dashboard. The centre console has a massive touchscreen infotainment system with no knobs or buttons around it except for the climate control display which lies below it with what seems like haptic feedback controls. Another noteworthy observation would be the other display: the driver instrument console which is a digital screen standing out like a tablet behind the steering wheel.

Other images from the forum also show the early stages of vehicle testing in Korea for the next-gen Tucson which is heavily camouflaged. Gaps in the camo cover reveal the prominent new front grille in line with Hyundai’s new design philosophy. The grille design is similar to the one seen on the Tuscon concept at the 2019 LA Auto Show. The tail lights, which are also slightly visible, are somewhat different from the current ones.

Although the Tucson has just received an update in the form of a facelift in India, development of the next generation of the SUV began long ago. We can expect it to take some time to reach Indian shores, probably around late-2021 or early-2022. The facelifted Tucson is currently available in a price range of Rs 22.30 lakh to Rs 27.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It competes with the Jeep Compass, Volkswagen T-Roc and the Skoda Karoq.
